Stephenie Meyer actually designed Bella’s engagement ring!
The engagement ring given to Bella by Edward in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, was a true labor of love, reports InStyle.com, requiring a prop master, five different jewelers, several samples and a multitude of research to finally get the glittering piece to perfection–and up to author Stephenie Meyer’s liking. The task of designing the antique engagement ring–described by Meyer in her Eclipse novel as a delicate piece “set with slanting rows of glittering round stones”–fell on prop master Grant Swain, who tirelessly researched Victorian-era jewelry before calling in samples and hiring four different designers to create various prototypes of the ring. But to no avail: Meyer, unimpressed with the model baubles, took it upon herself to draw up a rough sketch of the ring as she had envisioned it. The illustration was sent to Portland-based jeweler Rick Thurber, who used a computerized image of the drawing to create the end result — a stunning pave-diamond ring that was rushed to the set just hours before filming of the pivotal scene began!

SM Update: Haiti, Book Recommendation, and ‘Dear John’
*~*~*~*~*
January 27, 2010
Hope your new years have all started off right. A few unrelated things:
– I’ve been very impressed with the world in general and the Twilight fansites in specific in the support and love everyone is giving Haiti. It’s amazing to see how Twilight fans have come together to help. You are wonderful people. At this point, I think it’s important for all of us to remember that the situation in Haiti is not going to be cured overnight, so… keep up the good work, and let’s all keep the Haitians in our thoughts and prayers.
– A new book recommendation: I recently read and adored The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. It was one of those books that feel absolutely perfect and satisfying, and when you finish it you sit around wishing that you could find another book just like it.
– I realized that there was an egregious oversight on my music recommendation page. How have I never listed Metric? That’s crazy. Anyway, Fantasies was one of the best albums of 2009.
– Finally, a movie recommendation: Dear John comes out Friday the fifth of February. Thanks to my cool friend Wyck (who many of you have seen in various Twilight Saga interviews, as he is one of the producers on our movies, and who is a producer on Dear John) I got to see this one early. I will confess, I cried. Also, I discovered Channing Tatum, who I’ve somehow missed until now. Likey. Lots. Amanda Seyfried is entrancing as always, and the chemistry (chemistry is always the crux of a movie for me) between them is lovely. Though the chemistry between Channing Tatum and Richard Jenkins (who plays his father) was my favorite part.
Have a great week!
Steph

Exclusive EW Look at the Twilight Graphic Novel
Here’s a look at the cover and a small part of the interview with Stephenie:
The text of your original novel is boiled down so carefully that it doesn’t feel like anything is missing. Were you the one who did that?
I was definitely involved. I didn’t do the original “script” for the book, so to speak. But when I got the dialogue with the images, I did a lot of tinkering. In a couple of places, I asked for missing scenes to be inserted. For example, the conversation in the car that Bella and Edward have after she faints in Biology.
When this project is done, are you done with Twilight?
I can’t say that I am done with Twilight forever. I’m not working on anything new Twilight-related now, and probably not for a while. But there’s still a possibility that I’ll go back and close some of the open doors.

‘Twilight’ series sweeps top four spots
The ‘Twilight’ series swept the top four spots in the USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Books list in 2009. Congrats Steph!
Led by Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series, vampires devoured USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Books list in 2009.
For the second year in a row, Meyer swept the top four spots. No other author — not even J. K. Rowling— has done that in the list’s 16-year history.
Meyer’s coattails pulled 16 other vampire titles onto the list of the year’s 100 most popular books.
SM Update: Stephenie Adresses Breaking Dawn Gossip
January 12, 2010
Just a quick note on the subject of the Breaking Dawn film: there is no drama over whether the book should be one movie or two. My personal feeling is that it would be very difficult to cram the whole story into one movie (as I’ve said in many interviews previous to this), but if a great way of doing that surfaces, I’m all for it. Two or one, whichever way fits the story best is fine by me, and everyone I’ve spoken with at Summit seems to feel the same way. We’re all excited to move forward on this, and we are slowly and surely getting there. I know people are anxious for news, and so sometimes gossip get fabricated to stir things up, but there’s no basis to this particular story.

StephenieMeyer.com Updated!
Stephenie updated her official site regarding a new book from her friend and publicist, Elizabeth Eulberg.
I hope you all are enjoying your holidays! Just a quick update about a book—arriving in bookstores tomorrow!—that I’m very excited about: The Lonely Hearts Club by Elizabeth Eulberg. If you’ve ever been out to one of my signings, chances are you’ve already met this debut author. If you haven’t, but you’ve read the acknowledgements in any of my books, you’ve been introduced to her there. Elizabeth has been the publicist for my books from the very beginning, and has (clearly) done an amazing job. She’s also worked with scads of other YA authors. Now her own YA novel is coming out and I’m so proud of her. Well done, Lizzy! I look forward to reading more from you soon!

Happy Birthday Stephenie Meyer!
Happy Birthday Stephenie.
Hope you have an amazing time with your family and Merry Christmas!

Stephenie Meyer is not dead!
I assure you, she’s alive, contrary to rumors.
Her website was also updated with this message:
“Hey everybody. I just received a call from Stephenie and she wanted me to let everyone know that, contrary to some rumors that have recently started circulating, she is alive and well.”
Plagarism Lawsuit Against Stephenie Meyer’s Breaking Dawn is DISMISSED!
Little Brown Books Released this statement to Twilight Lexicon:
“The Honorable Otis D. Wright II of the United States District Court has ruled in favor of Stephenie Meyer and Hachette Book Group and has dismissed with prejudice Jordan Scott’s claim of copyright infringement.
In his ruling, Judge Wright stated that the two works have little in common and that the “characters in the two works are vastly different.” The decision admonishes Scott for “the deceptive presentation of the alleged similarities” and notes that she “has twice manipulated aspects of the subject works in order to create the appearance of similarity.”
While an attempt to ride on someone else’s success may not be surprising, it is encouraging that the courts and the public are not so easily misled.
This judgment confirms what we have known all along – Breaking Dawn is a wholly original work by Stephenie Meyer and this was a frivolous lawsuit brought for the purposes of publicizing the plaintiff’s personal publishing aspirations. Hachette Book Group and Stephenie Meyer are pleased to be able to put this case behind us.”
